Dr. Neale Ridgway
Office: CRC C306
What is your favourite enzyme, and why?
CTP phosphocholine cytotransferase. You find it all over, but its regulation is very much unique to that enzyme.
What is your favourite book?
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton.
What is the most recent book you’ve read?
Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes.
What is your favourite amino acid, and why?
Serine or threonine because they can be phosphorylated, and I’m interested in phosphoregulation of proteins.
What are some of your hobbies?
Ice hockey, field hockey, and furniture/old home restoration and repair.
What is your dream vacation?
I’d go back to the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday Islands.
What is the coolest project you’ve ever worked on?
It kind of dropped out of the blue. It was about caspase regulation of CT, and was unexpected.
What’s the biggest mistake you’ve made in lab?
I have minions that make mistakes for me!
(I do make them- too many to list. I’ve often used the wrong isotopes for labelling experiments, or things like that).
Do you have any advice or anything else you want to say?
Think beyond your current position, 4-5 years ahead. Have a plan in mind, chart your path, think about it, alter it- but overall, have fun and live in the moment!
